Event Day - Preparation:
Arrive to the Race Track Pit between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM
Sign the on-site waiver
Receive your Driver Number placard
Place your Driver Number on the Driver's Side of your vehicle. This can often be done by rolling up your window with the top of your placard captured by your window, or by taping your number to your window.
Be prepared for a course marshall or event organizer to perform a Tech Inspection on your race vehicle. Any deficiencies must be corrected and re-inspected prior to racing your vehicle or your car will not be allowed on the race track.
Driver's Meeting:
Each event will start with all Drivers attending the Driver's Meeting at 10:00 AM where a brief general schedule for the day will be laid out. This includes specifics of the number of laps each driver will make for each run, and the number of runs we will have for the day. Typically expect 2 laps per run, and 3 to 4 runs per day. Any questions can be answered during this meeting and any announcements for the day will be made here.
Parade Lap:
After the Driver's Meeting, a Parade Lap will be performed where all the drivers can drive on the race track in a low-speed reconnaissance lap where drivers can get a sense of the track layout.
At the end of the Parade Lap, all drivers will exit the track and return to the Track Pit to wait for their turn. Please pay attention to who is currently driving on the track so you are prepared to stage-up when your turn arrives.
Stage Up:
As the event is a Time-Trials event, there will only be 1 car on the track racing at a time.
Drivers will go to the timing car and retrieve a Transponder Unit. Mount the unit to the driver-side window by rolling it up with the provided clip. Please ensure the transponder is turned on (a red light should indicate the device is active), and should be pointed horizontally and approximately level to the ground. The mounting bracket is flexible and can bend to point the transponder up/down accordingly. There are a limited number of transponders, so please return the transponder after each of your runs, unless multiple drivers are racing your vehicle. In the case of a mis-aligned transponder, your lap times from our backup stop-watch will be recorded. The Rental car has a transponder mounted on the front fender and only requires you to ensure the red light is turned on.
The track entry will serve as the staging area. Drivers will wait at the entry OFF THE TRACK until the previous driver is finished their run.
Drivers and all passengers will secure their helmets and fasten their seat restraints at this point.
Time To Race:
Once the previous driver finishes their laps and exits the race track, drive from the Staging area onto the track, and stop with your bumper at the orange cones on the track.
The timing car will change the traffic light from Green to Red. Wait at the orange cones until the timing car is ready for you to begin.
The traffic light will change from Red -> Yellow -> Green. When this happens, you are free to begin your run when you are ready. Your time begins when your car passes by the timing car, and ends when you pass the timing car after you have finished the appropriate number of laps determined in the Driver's Meeting at the beginning of the day.
Exit the track and return to the Track Pit after your run is complete. Please return your transponder to the timing car. Relax until your turn comes up in the next run!
RENTAL CAR RULES:
The Rental Car is meant to be raced, so race it! However, this is not Mario Kart, demolition derby, or bumper cars. The car has to last the whole season and there are plenty of other drivers counting on it to continue working so do your best not to crash. We understand things break in racing, and we want you to be fast, but please respect the track and the car so we can continue to have a rental car and to keep costs low. This means:
"Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" - Take it easy until you are familiar with the car and the track. Don't try to set records on your first run. Brake early for the turns and wait for the exit to accelerate out of the turns.
The car has NO ABS. If you don't know what threshold braking is and how to do it, go slow while you learn. Locked brakes = no steering = hitting walls.
The car DOES HAVE AIRBAGS. If you hit a wall and one goes off, the car is done for the day. Don't do that.
No brake stands or neutral drops from the starting line or if you get stuck on the track.
You will not need to use the handbrake in the turns. Please don't use it as it can damage the drivetrain.
The main Rental Car is an Automatic; Use the 1-2 on the shifter instead of D for best results.
Slide your Driver Number Placard in the Driver Rear window holder so we know which driver you are.
A Transponder is mounted on the hood of the car. Ensure the red LED light is turned on the transponder prior to your run.
Mount your cameras anywhere
Leave it running and never remove the keys from the ignition.
If anything sounds feels or smells funny let Tom know immediately so he can address it before it gets worse.
There is a fire extinguisher in the back seat and the Tow strap is in the trunk.
